Theoretically there is no set limit on how artificial grass lasts. Some products that are less premium and manufactured to a lower standard could well only last a few years due to fading from UV or going bald. Luckily all of our products are premium standard and that’s why we are confident enough to offer a 10 year guarantee on everything.
In order to tailor your choice to you, we need to know several things. Firstly, things to consider are what its primary uses are. Is it being used by the kids for football or sports generally? Is it an area specifically for your dogs or pets to use? All of these questions are important which is why our consultant will do everything in their power to find the right product for you, when they pay you a visit. Maintenance is something that almost everything in this world needs. We don’t pretend artificial grass requires no maintenance because that isn’t true. It is definitely low maintenance and requires much less than upkeeping a lawn but certain softer products options do sometimes require brushing up more than some resilient products. Generally though it’s just a case of keeping leaves and plant debris off with a very light rake or brush. Any dog mess can simply be picked up and washed through. Generally speaking artificial grass will improve the drainage of the area its applied to. All artificial grass products offer ample drainage with regular perforations in the backing. We offer an MOT sub base of at least 50mm which allows a huge amount of water to pass under the surface of the grass and drain away. We use a coarse aggregate/sand known as limestone dust or grano to top our bases which allows for very efficient free draining baseworks. Of course, some jobs and garden require extra work based on drainage issues which is always worth discussing with our consultants upon a visit.
PU backing is an alternative way of coating the backing of artificial grass. It’s a polyurethane based product opposed to the traditional latex. Primarily this is considered a benefit hugely to pet owners as it prevents the smell and odours of pet urine from soaking into the backing whatsoever. Other benefits include better drainage and less water retention due to its water resistance, more fibre retention when handling or even through general heavy traffic (ie patio edges).
